Reserve Reports

Steels Reserves 3-1 North Gawber

Stocksbridge reserves continued with their impressive home form, beating North Gawber 3-1 on Saturday. Despite adverse conditions this was arguably Stocksbridge’s best performance of the season, with resolute defending, a hard-working midfield and a potent frontline. All of this was in the context of the 2 normal keepers not being available and Jake Lancini filling in between the posts from his usual full back position.

The first goal came via a well worked corner routine involving Will Middleton and the scorer Martel Daswell. Whilst Stocksbridge held the upper hand, it was only 1-0 at half time.

As the conditions worsened, Luke Webster extended the home team’s lead with a well taken goal. Credit to North Gawber as they refused to lie down, eventually reducing the margin to one goal. However, in the 80th minute Cole Payne restored the lead to 2 goals and celebrated accordingly.

The reserves will need to take this standard of performance into Wednesday nights home game against Swinton, who are undefeated in nearly 2 years.
