Managers Frickley Notes

We provide a warm welcome to all players, management, volunteers, committee members and supporters of Frickley Athletic FC to the Eco-Power Stadium today for what should a highly competitive and entertaining game. I thank our club for making a special gesture to all current and ex-service men to attend the game today for free. I hope this provides a bumper crowd and positive atmosphere within the stands. Also, it will provide me with great pride to be able to lay the reef on the pitch at the start of the game.

Since my last programme notes, we have had two excellent performances and results in the league and a disappointing outcome in the S&H County Senior Cup. The performance against Marske United, especially defensively was really pleasing, as it shown the discipline, determination and organisation of the players to limit for me the best team in this league to minimal direct chances on goals. Furthermore, what was just as pleasing was the way we responded to going 2-1 down and Luke Mangham had the composure to equalise with a penalty in the final few minutes. In contrast to that the last 30 minutes of the Rossington Main game was costly and our defensive performance was well below par. Like us, as a management team, the players were hugely disappointed and no that we were second best against a young lively energetic side. The best way to respond to results like that is firstly in training, which players did brilliantly with first class attitudes and work ethics then in our performance in our next game. Those supporters and committee members who made the long journey (thank you) to watch the game were treated to our best performance and result of the season. We were exceptional from start to finish, with a talented Hebburn Town unable to live with our intensity, purpose and quality with and without the ball. As a manager, the togetherness and spirit of the players on and off the pitch was great to see and shows the progress we are making as club.

We must back last week’s performance with a positive result today. I know the players are fully focused on just doing that but also are aware that today’s opponents will be a different proposition to Hebburn Town.

Thank you as ever for your support of the club. Enjoy the game.
Ian
