Hebburn Town 1-0 Steels

Stocksbridge Park Steels fell to a 1-0 loss against Hebburn Town.

This was not a game for the purists and both sides struggled to create anything to cause excitement in the crowd. While the defences could count themselves as very happy with the first half, both attacks failed to cause much impact. The closest anyone got to a goal in the first half was Jack Watson who curled his shot just over. Other than that, not much happened other than the goalkeepers have quick naps from time to time.

In the second half, Stocksbridge had started off brightly. But in a blow, it was Hebburn who took the lead. Olly Martin gathered the ball in the box and while he was crowded, a little feint gave him some space and then he was able to curl the ball into the top corner.

Stocksbridge rallied as they tried to fight back into the game. Jordan Lemon’s pass into the box had enough venom to become a shot and Shaun Newbrook in the Hebburn goal had to move quick to stop it from sneaking in. There was also a big opportunity for Ross Goodwin who sliced his shot from the edge of the box. It did fall to substitute Basille Zottos at a narrow angle but Newbrook did well to save.

In the end, Stocksbridge huffed and puffed but were unable to break down a resolute Hebburn defence.
