Good luck to a former SPS Junior

Good luck to George Maris and his team Mansfield Town.

George Maris who played 8 seasons as an SPS Junior is now at Mansfield Town, they play Port Vale at Wembley tomorrow.

George joined SPS juniors at the age of 8 and played through the age groups until u16s where he was spotted by Barnsley FC. He spent 3 years at Oakwell. The Tykes sent George out on loan to non league Clubs Guiseley and Nuneaton including a short spell at Lincoln City, before a four year stint at Cambridge United where he made 132 appearances. he is now into his second season with Mansfield Town.

A quiet, unassuming but highly competitive, he is a  local lad from Worrall. The clubs football operations manager Dave Rhodes said “knowing George as I do, as a lad, he would have dreamed about running out to play at Wembley…Wow, dreams do come true!… Worrall to Wembley eh!?”

If your child is wishing to play for our Juniors at any age group please visit the SPS Website and follow the contact options, we are always on the look out for the next George Maris.
