At the start of the week the Trident leagues released a statement saying the leagues would wait till the latest round of tiers were announced before making a call on when league games would resume. The following day they announced if both teams agreed not only could teams play this coming Saturday (19th) but also could arrange a game on Tuesday (22nd). After contacting Market Drayton Town who should’ve been the visitors to the Eco Power Stadium this Saturday, the club wish to make the following statement:
We have respectfully declined to play our scheduled fixture for the 19th December after yesterday’s announcement by the The Pitching In Northern Premier League. With such short notice and taking into account the potential COVID 19 risk to our players, essential match day staff and their families, and those of our visitors, we feel it wouldn’t be prudent to play this close to a major national holiday period. We will keep you all updated as the situation develops with fixtures over the Christmas period Keep Safe and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Eco-Power Environmental Stadium, home of The Steels, as soon as possible
As for the Boxing Day game against Frickley Athletic, we are still in discussion with all the relevant parties and will make an announcement as soon as possible.
